Neoadjuvant chemotherapy in colon cancer: what the ELECLA trial shows

The ELECLA trial (ESMO Open, 2026), with the participation of Dr. Patricia Tejedor, shows that neoadjuvant chemotherapy in pMMR locally advanced colon cancer is safe and feasible, reduces tumor volume and improves pathologic features, without increasing surgical complications.

ILEOSTIM trial: efferent loop stimulation before ileostomy reversal

Dr. Patricia Tejedor takes part in this multicentre trial published in Colorectal Disease (2026), which studies whether efferent loop stimulation before ileostomy closure reduces postoperative ileus. The primary endpoint did not reach statistical significance, although the intervention group had less ileus (7.6% vs 16.4%), a difference the authors consider clinically relevant.

Review published in Clinical and Translational Oncology with the participation of Prof. Luis González Bayón. Cytoreductive surgery in GIST with peritoneal metastases, after 6-12 months of TKI and with a multidisciplinary decision, reaches 5-year survival of up to 80% in selected patients.

ERAS consensus in primary retroperitoneal sarcoma surgery

Dr. Pablo Lozano Lominchar, member of the Quenet Torrent team, is the first author of this international consensus with 42 ERAS recommendations graded using GRADE and validated by Delphi between the Spanish Society of Surgeons and the Portuguese Sarcoma Group.

Proof of concept of a two-stage surgical strategy with HIPEC for voluminous pseudomyxoma peritonei. All eight patients had a complete pathological response and there was no mortality.
