Only palliative treatment has been proposed
You have been offered systemic chemotherapy with no mention of surgery, and you want to know whether there is an alternative with curative intent.
More than 3,000 CRS+HIPEC procedures. The same team now operates at Hospital Memorial Publio Cordón, Pozuelo de Alarcón.
If you recognise any of these scenarios, the team can review your case and tell you what surgical options you have.
You have been offered systemic chemotherapy with no mention of surgery, and you want to know whether there is an alternative with curative intent.
You have carcinomatosis of colorectal, ovarian or gastric origin, or pseudomyxoma, and have not consulted a team specialised in peritoneal surgery.
You have been told the PCI is too high or that surgery is not feasible. You want a second reading from a team with more than 3,000 cases.
You have had chemotherapy and want to know whether the relapse can be treated surgically at a high-volume centre based in Madrid.
You prefer a hospital in or around Madrid and want to confirm that the team has experience in CRS+HIPEC.
Barajas airport is 25-30 km from the hospital. The coordinator advises you on travel and accommodation from the first contact.
The results of cytoreductive surgery with HIPEC depend to a large extent on the team's case volume and protocols.
The aim is to remove all visible macroscopic disease (complete cytoreduction, CC-0). This is one of the factors that most determines the long-term oncological outcome.
Immediately after cytoreduction, the abdominal cavity is perfused with chemotherapy at 41-43°C for 30-60 minutes. The heat increases the effect of the drug on residual cells.
Hospital Memorial Publio Cordón has robotic operating theatres and specific equipment for high-complexity cancer surgery, including HIPEC perfusion systems.
Surgical oncologists, a medical oncologist, a radiologist and a pathologist analyse each case in a joint session before any decision is made. The strategy is always agreed.
The surgeon who assesses your case is the same one who operates. The team travels between Barcelona and Madrid to keep continuity of care.

The process has four steps and does not oblige you to have surgery with us.
You fill in the form and the coordinator tells you exactly which documentation we need.
Surgeons, a medical oncologist and a radiologist analyse your case in a multidisciplinary session in Madrid or Barcelona.
The coordinator explains the committee's assessment: whether surgery is indicated, which technique and what the next step is.
The second opinion does not commit you to anything. If you decide to have surgery, we organise everything; if not, we give you the clinical information in writing.

Wonderful surgical team, among the best out there. Dr. Torrent (expert in peritoneal carcinomatosis) is an exceptional surgeon and an even better person. His coordinator is super kind, fast and efficient. The personal care is excellent and so are the results. This is of vital importance for cancer patients.
In the public healthcare system they gave my father a maximum of one year to live. They only offered him chemo and no hope, said it was impossible, that nothing could be done. He had several tumors inside the peritoneal sac with metastases. A year and a half later he is clean, completely cured. His latest PET scan came back clean. We are very happy. Thanks to Dr. Torrent and his team. THANK YOU.
Excellent professionals, especially Dr. Torrent, attentive at all times to the patient (my wife), operated for peritoneal pseudomyxoma. They helped us with all our needs since we came from outside Barcelona. Thank you Elisabeth. We are very grateful to Quenet Torrent Institute, thank you for everything.
I am a 63-year-old patient. They detected adrenal gland cancer and told me there was nothing to be done. I sought a second opinion and they told me about the Quenet Torrent team, specialists in complex operations. Dr. Torrent, from the first moment, told me they could operate. They operated and removed a large tumor mass. I spent a week in the ICU and a month on the ward. Every day he came morning and evening, no matter Saturday or Sunday. Never throw in the towel. I am happy to have found these professionals who gave me my life back. Thank you.
Many thanks for your attention. Dr. Torrent always attentive, involved and decisive. The reception staff very pleasant and always offering the best option. 100% RECOMMENDED. THANK YOU.
Dr. Torrent helped me make the best decision at a difficult moment. I think he is a great professional and a person capable of accompanying you and putting himself in another's shoes. Thank you for everything.
I have peritoneal carcinomatosis. When I sent my diagnosis to every center, practically all of them agreed on palliative chemo with little survival time, since I had a very aggressive type of cell. Until we reached Dr. Quenet, Dr. Torrent and their team. I can only confirm what their CV announces: they are far ahead of the rest. They saved my life, because during the operation the harmful cells that everyone had diagnosed, and that were the reason nobody would operate on me, were not there. This intervention has become the best investment of my life.
The best decision of my life was finding this excellent team of surgeons who saved my husband's life. At a prestigious international clinic in Madrid he was given up for lost with advanced peritoneal carcinomatosis from appendiceal cancer, and thanks to them, the best professionals in this field, he was operated on very successfully. A perfect recovery with no complications, because they were on top of his progress at all times. They have a great quality: from the start they were very honest and close. I can only be deeply grateful; we went to buy time and thanks to them my husband got his life back.
Dr. Torrent is a brilliant surgeon and a very approachable and warm doctor, whose manner reveals all the qualities that make him a great person and professional: perseverance, innate curiosity and a desire to learn, humility, sincerity and empathy. Going through an operation is undoubtedly an intense experience, physically and emotionally, in which anxieties arise and you feel very vulnerable. All of that is normal, and as his former patient I can say that his care and professionalism throughout the process were absolutely exceptional. I felt very supported by him, with the confidence of knowing I was in the best hands. I will always be grateful to him. Moltes gràcies Dr. Torrent!

It is performed by Dr. François Quenet and Dr. Juan José Torrent, who have more than 3,000 cytoreduction procedures with HIPEC behind them. The team travels between Barcelona and Hospital Memorial Publio Cordón: there is no separate team for each site, and the protocols and the committee are the same.
The medical committee reviews the documentation within 48 hours of it being complete. The coordinator then contacts you to explain the proposal and book a consultation at Hospital Memorial Publio Cordón if appropriate. If tests are missing to reach a decision, you are told exactly which ones are needed.
At Hospital Memorial Publio Cordón, Paseo de la Casa de Campo 5, 28223 Pozuelo de Alarcón. It is 15-25 minutes from central Madrid and 25-30 km from Barajas airport, with its own car park. The location makes it easier for patients from other regions and from abroad to get there.
The average stay is 8 to 14 days, depending on the extent of the cytoreduction and postoperative progress. The first days are spent in an intensive care unit. The rooms are single and a companion can stay throughout the admission, and ERAS protocols shorten recovery.
Yes. Many of the patients at the Madrid site come from other regions or from abroad, and the nearby Barajas airport makes this easier. The coordinator advises on travel and accommodation, and the second opinion can be started remotely by sending your reports before you travel.
Yes. Hospital Memorial Publio Cordón works with the main private insurers. Cover for this type of surgery depends on each policy and on prior authorisation, so the coordinator reviews your case and explains what your insurance covers and what would fall outside it before you take any step.
HIPEC is combined with cytoreduction when the tumour origin and peritoneal spread are suitable. The committee assesses the PCI, histology, general condition and response to previous treatments. In some cases only cytoreduction is indicated, and in others PIPAC is considered as an alternative.
