Francesc's Case

What looked like appendicitis turned out to be an appendiceal tumour spread to the peritoneum. A second opinion and cytoreductive surgery with HIPEC gave him his normal life back.

REAL TESTIMONY

Francesc's Testimony

Francesc was 50, with an active life and no health problems, until a pain on his right side took him into the operating room for a suspected appendicitis. During surgery it turned out to be something else: an appendiceal tumour that had spread across the peritoneum. He sought a second opinion and found Dr. Torrent.

  • Right-sided abdominal pain interpreted as appendicitis
  • Intraoperative finding: appendiceal tumour spread to the peritoneum
  • Second opinion with peritoneal surface specialists
  • Complete cytoreductive surgery with HIPEC
  • Favourable recovery: discharged within a week
  • Normal life with annual follow-up (blood test and CT scan)
Francesc's Testimony, appendiceal tumour spread to the peritoneum

From appendicitis to an unexpected diagnosis

Francesc, 50, led an active life, with his work and his sport, and no health problems. It all began with a pain on his right side that became so intense that he ended up in the operating room with a diagnosis of appendicitis. However, during the operation it became clear it was not appendicitis, but an appendiceal tumour that had spread across the peritoneum.

Faced with that finding, Francesc did not settle for a single assessment: he sought a second opinion and found Dr. Juan José Torrent, who convinced him from the very first visit by clearly explaining what the treatment involved. Appendiceal tumours that spread to the peritoneum, such as carcinomatosis of appendiceal origin, are exactly the kind of disease where an expert team makes the difference.

Treatment was cytoreductive surgery with HIPEC: an operation in which the abdomen is opened to carefully remove all visible disease and, once the cavity is clean, heated intraperitoneal chemotherapy is applied, able to eliminate the microscopic tumour remnants that surgery cannot remove.

Recovery was very favourable. Francesc had barely any pain and was home within a week. Today he leads exactly the same life as before, without excess, with an annual follow-up through a blood test and an abdominal CT scan to make sure everything remains fine and to detect any recurrence early.

"I looked for a second opinion and he convinced me right away. Dr. Torrent explains everything so you understand it, gives great confidence, and it is real. My life now is the same as before. I recommend it 100%." Francesc, patient

Francesc highlights the close, family-like treatment, the ability to ask any question and receive a clear answer. His advice for anyone in a similar situation is simple: seek information, do not settle for a single opinion and put yourself in the hands of professionals who know how to treat exactly this disease.
